There are two types of TEXTURE....
1: ACTUAL or REAL TEXTURE: means and artist uses materials that actually feel like something when you touch it. Today we will be creating ACTUAL TEXTURE in our collages.
2: IMPLIED TEXTURE: means and artist uses special techniques when drawing or painting to make their artwork LOOK like it feels a certain way, but actually is just flat. It takes A LOT of practice to create IMPLIED TEXTURE.

We have already learned about the two types of TEXTURE found in artwork...Actual or Real Texture and Implied Texture. Today we will be creating IMPLIED TEXTURE because we will be making marks that will make your rabbit "look" like it has fur. But when you touch your paper, you will not "feel" fur, just paper. To start this step, make lines or rows on your rabbit's face. Once you have these rows completed, you can use a SHARPIE to make short parallel lines to create your fur texture. When you are all finished, you can erase any pencil lines that are still visible. Set this aside to use in a later step.
Step 3: Create BACKGROUND In this step you will create your background. For this it is fitting that we make a floral background. with bright colors. The bright colors and ORGANIC SHAPES will create CONTRAST in your artwork next to your black and white TEXTURED bunny. Remember, CONTRAST is when an artist places things next to each other that are very different. This makes the various pieces of their artwork really POP! To create my background, I first drew flowers, stems and leaves with crayons. Next, I traced the flowers with washable marker. Finally, I brushed water over top to create a watercolor paint effect. |
