Let's get started!
What is the difference between a SHAPE and a FORM ?
- Our lady bugs will be a HEMISPHERE or a half of a SHPERE.
- Our leaf will start out as a 2-DIMENSIONAL FLAT SHAPE, but we will do a special trick at the end to make it NOT FLAT and 3-DIMENSIONAL
What are COMPLIMENTARY COLOR PAIRS ?
These are colors that are like a pair of good friends... although they are beautiful, bold and bright on their own, when they are standing by each other they are truly a magnificent pair! These colors love to make each other look good....they "compliment" each other. Like some pairs of friends, they are COMPLETE OPPOSITES. This makes it easy to find them on the color wheel. The pair consists of a PRIMARY COLOR and the SECONDARY COLOR that is OPPOSITE or across from it on the color wheel. Although, these colors make each other look really great, they DO NOT mix well together when painting. They each like to shine beautifully on their own...like all best friends should.
Supplies you will need....

STEP 2: OUTLINE and COLOR or PAINT your leafWhile your red paint dries, you can outline the lines on your leaf with crayon, pastel, permanent marker (really whatever you have on hand). After that, you can paint your leaf. If you do not have paint, color your leaf with washable marker and brush water over the top. This will start to look like paint! |
STEP 4: CUT and POP OUT your leaf!
FIRST, cut out your leaf shape.
SECOND, using a strip of cardboard, attach it to 2 places on the back of your leaf using glue. Make sure your cardboard is shorter than your leaf, this will force your leaf to buckle and pop up!
Voila! you've created a 3-D Leaf FORM!
STEP 5: TRIM and BUILD your Ladybugs
After that, we used some small twigs we had gathered for the antennae and legs. Hot glue works the best for this, so adults you will want to help with this step.
