"The greatest heroes are those who do their duty in the daily grind of domestic affairs whilst the world whirls as a maddening dreidel."
National Nurses Day is observed annually on May 6. On this day, we raise awareness of all nurse contributions and commitments and acknowledge the vital role nurses play in society. In addition to expert medical care, nurses provide a listening ear, gentle touch, words of encouragement and a hand to hold in times of struggle and uncertainty for so many people. Be sure to find some time today to thank a nurse that has impacted your life! | |
School Nurse's Day May 6, 2020 is also recognized as National School Nurses Day. Since 1972, National School Nurse Day was established to foster a better understanding of the role of school nurses in the educational setting to improve the health, safety, and academic success of all students. The theme this year – Supporting Students in Times of Crisis – reinforces the changing times of 2020. This year, more than ever, all members of our school communities, school nurses included, have been required to take on unprecedented roles and adapt quickly to changes in their jobs. It is reflective of the significant roles school nurses have in the health care of their school communities to help make a healthier place for children and families to learn and grow during this crisis. | A Brief History... May 6th is the 1st day of National Nursing Week, which concludes on May 12, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. At the end of the 19th century, “The Lady With the Lamp" or as she is more widely known, Florence Nightingale founded modern nursing. Thanks to her strict use of hand-washing and hygiene practices while caring for wounded soldiers in the Crimean War, Nightingale and her helpers reduced the death rate from 42% to 2% ushering in nursing as we know it today #SND2020 |
This theme recognizes that school nurses play an integral role in the health of students, regardless of whether they’re in school or not. School nurses support students and student health every day of the year. But, on National School Nurse Day, we take special time to celebrate and recognize the contributions that school nurses are making to the health and learning of our nation’s 50 million children. We are proud here at the Stanley-Boyd Area School District to have Nurse Karyn here everyday to support our students, staff, families and community! Thank you Nurse Karyn! |
Let's get started...
- Pencil
- Sharpie or other permanent marker
- Any art supply you have around the house.
- Bandaid Template
Download and print off the bandaid template of your choice (if you do not have a printer you can draw your own bandaid here!). After that start to sketch your bandaid design in pencil first. Try to fill every inch of space on your bandaid so that they are full of details and ideas. After that you can trace your pencil lines with BLACK Sharpie or another permanent marker. This will help your designs really stand out and POP!
- You can color with washable marker first and brush water over top to create a water color paint effect.
- When you color/draw with crayon first and washable marker second, you can brush water on top and the crayon will resist the water.
- you can create your own DIY LIQUID WATERCOLORS from old dried up markers.
